TIU Online

Minimum Tech Requirements

What technology do I need for the TIU Online Campus?
Do I need a webcam to participate?

Although for most courses, students are highly encouraged to record videos by means of introduction to build a sense of online community, many courses do not “require” them. Some classes may require a webcam.

Will I need to download media files?

Downloading media files is not required for every class but is a component of some online classes.

How fast does my internet connection need to be?

To take advantage of your online courses, you must have a high-speed broadband Internet connection.

What computer hardware and software do I need?

The hardware requirements are those of a standard computer set-up—either a laptop or a desktop computer with a monitor and keyboard. It is not recommended for online students to use Google Chromebooks. Computers must be able to play audio and video files.  Windows (version 7 and above) and Mac OS X are recommended.

You should have the most recent version of your web browser—Google Chrome and Firefox (1 or later) are strongly recommended. There are known issues with Internet Explorer for Windows and the Safari browser on Mac. The ability to send and receive email is extremely important as a part of your online coursework here at Trinity.

Software requirements include a program that allows you to create and read Microsoft Office documents. Specialty classes may require specialty software or plug-ins. If you are using Microsoft Office 2007, be sure to install Service Pack 1. Another benefit of being a TIU Online student is you also have access to the full range of Google Apps for Education products. This includes Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. These products are freely accessible to you as long as you are a student here at Trinity.

Can I use my mobile device to work on my classes?

Although you are encouraged to use your mobile device to access your coursework, listen to audio files, or view videos, it is highly recommended you use a laptop or desktop computer to work on and submit assignments as well as quizzes or exams.
